The second edition of the Adriatic innovation forum addresses the theme of energy independence recalling Entico Mattei

Pescara, 21 November — The second edition of Visionaria opens with the words of Enrico Mattei, pronounced in Sicily just before he died, sixty years ago. Far-sighted man, patriot, praised and denigrated like every self-respecting Visionary — President Strever called him in his welcome greeting — has circumscribed with his speech, repeated with the deep voice of the actor Edoardo Oliva from Abruzzo, the central topic of this second edition of the Innovation Forum of the Chamber of Commerce Chieti Pescara and his Development Agency: the energy.

But Mattei wasn't the only Italian to be remembered. The President of Unioncamere Andrea Prete, speaking in the presence on this first day, he also recalls Giulio Natta’s Nobel Prize for Chemistry and underlines how the chambers of commerce have been at the forefront of taking a leading role in the digitisation of SMEs through digital business points. A state-of-the-art role that could be reconfirmed with the opening of energy business points.

Round tableEnergy, in fact, at the center of the inaugural round table attended by Paolo Accastello — Plant Manager — Sevel SpA; Carmine Puglielli, Director of the Abruzzo Intesa Sanpaolo Business Area; Roberto Spezie — Head of TECHNOLOGIE Directorate of RIT Terna Rete Italia S.p.A. Rome; Alessandro Corsini — Ordinary of fluid machines, La Sapienza of Rome — Extraordinary Professor, Dept of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engrg, Stellenbosch University, SA — Associated with research assignment at CNR-IIA; Mario Luigi Rainone — Associate Professor of Applied Geology University Gabriele d’Annunzio Chieti Pescara; Sabrina Romano — ENEA — Architect and technologist department of energy technologies and renewable sources smart energy division — Laboratorio Smart Cities and Communities; Giuseppe Di Marco — Legambiente Abruzzo.

“Sixty years after his death,” he said. President Strever — we still find ourselves facing an energy dependency, comparable to a pandemic worse than that of COVID 19, but while the search for a COVID vaccine affected the whole world, dear energy is unfortunately a problem almost only ours. For this reason today, it is more fundamental than ever that Italy returns to believe in its own possibilities, investing in a large project that will lead us to reduce or, possibly, reset our energy dependence. For the purpose, we decided to open the work of Visionaria with a round table together with illustrious exponents of the industrial, banking and academic world to try to diagnose the problem and draw a path of care with a spirit of service to the country and in the awareness of our real possibilities”.

The President of the Development Agency Letizia Scastiglia: Two elements are particularly relevant in this second edition of Visionaria, the Adriatic Innovation Forum. Continuity in innovation and continuous innovation. Last year we had left ourselves recognising in Visionaria the moment of synthesis that this territory needed to structure our innovation ecosystem but also the starting point at which it was providing a method to work together on issues that could represent the development of our companies and therefore in the
our territory. Innovation continues with the approach to this event. Because during the last year we did not want to turn off the spotlights, those pointed within our organisation, and so we put in place a path of
bottom-up construction, shared with key stakeholders
locals.

During Visionaria, it will be possible to visit a “Visionart” area, realised thanks to the precious and continuous collaboration of the Abruzzo Region, dedicated to meetings, interactive activities and experiences that concern the different application areas of innovation to traditional and digital craftsmanship: virtual reality; 3D scanning and printing; augmented reality; artificial intelligence; metaverse.

Governor Marsilio, present at the inauguration: In relation to the energy issue, I hope that, on the part of all actors, there will be a different approach to the past. It would be necessary to reach a point of fall, always respectful of the values linked to environmental sustainability, that does not make you forget that the main strength of our region always remains the industry and in particular the metalworking one”. It was supported, this morning, in Pescara, the president of the Regional Executive, Marco Marsilio, on the occasion of his participation in the inaugural day of “Visionaria”, in progress of development to the tourist port.

We were among the very first regions in Italy to approve a regional law on renewable energy communities, recently, we have also expanded the availability of space using the standard surfaces within industrial consortia to ensure that photovoltaic and renewable energy plants can be realised only where there is a need for energy consumption and not on valuable agricultural land. Moreover, there is an ongoing reflection that it is necessary to do throughout the regional territory because Abruzzo is already invested by the new energy policies of the government that descend from the need to eliminate dependence on Russia and foreign markets for the supply of gas. The mining platforms of our region exist and it is necessary to confront this new reality. I hope, he concluded, that it will be done without ideological attitudes, neither on the one hand nor on the other. In essence, it will be necessary to find a new point of fall that allows Abruzzo to protect and enhance its industrial vocation and perhaps make us self-sufficient and thus improve the competitiveness of our companies and our economy.
